     The founder, Brother Dwight Porter, was responsible for me coming to receive Christ as personal Savior in the fall of 1967, in Miami, Florida. I remember the exchange vividly – over two hours in his church office, wrestling with a religious background of grace plus works for salvation, and the Bible, stating that we are saved “by grace through faith…not of works…” I wasn’t saving material, I told Pastor Porter. I had done too many sinful things to ever tilt the scale back to me being acceptable to God for salvation. It took some time for me to see that all mankind is in the same sinful condition: unable to save himself from his sin, of which all have engaged in. How marvelous it was to see for the very first time that it was for me that Christ died; it was for me that Christ’s blood was shed to atone for my enormous debt of sin; it was for me that Christ rose literally and bodily from the dead; and it was for me that the gospel message is made available to all.
     I am eternally grateful for that divine encounter in Miami. We were separated for about thirty-three years. I went to Bible College and eventually seminary, picking up three degrees in the process. I also was led of the Lord to start two churches: one in Montana, and the other in Florida, where I still pastor. About ten years ago, I found out through a series of incidents that Brother and Mrs. Porter had retired in Sebastian, Florida. Soon, my wife and I visited with them and recounted all the years in between. It was a wonderful visit, or two, or three, or more. We asked if there was anything that we could do to help in his current ministry of The Challenger and Literature materials. His long time radio and cassette announcer and label maker had gone home to be with the Lord recently, and we soon began to make labels for The Challenger. Then, it was labels for the cassettes. Then labeling, stuffing the mailers, and mailing the cassettes. Throw in a few articles now and then for good measure and we were blessed to be able to be of help.We really never had any idea that one day we would be in the ministry of Dwight and Marian Porter. But here we are, and with their blessing and wishes that the ministry would carry on as it had in the past. And while my wife and I are not the Porter’s, we are God’s children through faith in Christ, and therefore, your brother and sister in Christ, as are every one of you who are saved, to us. Let us labor together with God, uphold each other boldly before the throne of grace in prayer, and stand together against the tidal wave of apostasy that is all about us. If God never changes, and His Word never changes, than His doctrine never changes, and nor should we who boldly profess Him before others in all that we do. May the Lord be pleased with what we do for Him, not only here with this ministry, but in every aspect of all of our lives. To God be the glory!
